Angels 4, Athletics 2

Torii Hunter homered and drove in three runs as the Los Angeles Angels kept their postseason hopes alive with a 4-2 victory over visiting Oakland on Saturday night.

The Angels crept to within 2 1/2 games of Boston in the American League wild-card race, one game back of Tampa Bay.

Los Angeles had just one hit in the first five innings before rallying in the sixth against Guillermo Moscoso (8-10). Bobby Abreu gave the Angels a 2-1 lead on a two-out RBI single to right and scored when Hunter followed with a two-run homer to left.

That was enough for Jerome Williams (4-0), who gave up just one run on five hits in 6 1/3 innings. Relievers Hisanori Takahashi and Scott Downs held the lead through the seventh and eighth, and Jordan Walden picked up the save despite allowing a ninth-inning run on Jemile Weeks' second RBI single of the night.

Moscoso pitched seven innings in defeat, allowing five hits and striking out two.

Hunter put the Angels on the board in the first inning with an RBI base hit. Los Angeles lost first baseman Mark Trumbo to an apparent right ankle injury in the seventh inning.
