Mike Napoli hit the go-ahead two-run homer and Colby Lewis allowed just one hit over six innings and as the Texas Rangers notched a 4-3 victory over the host Tampa Bay Rays on Monday to take a 2-1 lead in the American League Division Series.
Napoli hit a seventh-inning blast off David Price and Josh Hamilton added a two-run single to cap a four-run inning for Texas, which won its second straight game in the series.
Neftali Feliz recorded the final four outs and induced Game 1 hero Kelly Shoppach to bounce into a game-ending double play for the Rangers, who can clinch the series in Tuesday’s Game 4 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Desmond Jennings homered twice for Tampa Bay, including an eighth-inning shot off Mike Adams that cut the Texas lead to one.
The only hit Lewis (1-0) allowed was a leadoff homer in the fourth to Jennings. Lewis struck out six and walked two and is 4-0 over the past two postseasons.
Price (0-1) took a four-hit shutout into the seventh before faltering and was charged with three runs and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings.
Tampa Bay scored in the bottom of the seventh on Sean Rodriguez’s infield out with the bases loaded to pull within 4-2.
