Ike Davis doubled home the go-ahead run in the 10th and Kelly Shoppach added a two-run homer as visiting New York rallied to win the series opener.
The Mets rallied from an early 4-1 deficit and trailed 5-4 entering the eighth. But Shoppach’s double to left scored David Wright to tie the game.
In the 10th, Wright singled with one out off B.J. Rosenberg (0-2). Davis followed with a double to deep left-center, plating Wright to put the Mets ahead 6-5. Lucas Duda followed with a run-scoring single. Shoppach put it away with a two-run homer to left, his second of the season to make it 9-5.
The Phillies could not hold a 4-1 lead after Ryan Howard’s 11th career grand slam, coming with no outs in the first inning off New York starter Chris Young. Mike Baxter hit his first homer of the season in the fourth, a two-run shot off Philadelphia starter Vance Worley to bring the Mets within 4-3.
Wright’s fifth-inning sacrifice fly scored Ruben Tejada to even the score at 4-4. Chase Utley’s ninth homer of the season in the fifth put the Phillies ahead 5-4.
Bobby Parnell (4-3) earned the victory by pitching two innings of relief.
