Tigers 8, Rangers 2

Miguel Cabrera drove in three runs with a pair of doubles, helping Detroit cool off a streaking Texas squad that had won eight of its last nine games.

Texas starter Justin Grimm (1-1), who was coming off a win in his major league debut, was tagged early and often by the Tigers during a five-run first inning. Cabrera opened the onslaught with a two-run double and scored on an RBI single by Delmon Young. Jhonny Peralta and Ramon Santiago also had run-scoring hits in the inning for Detroit.

Cabrera added another RBI double in the sixth inning.

Rick Porcello (5-5) left with an 8-0 lead after allowing a leadoff walk in the seventh and was charged with a run after Josh Hamilton belted a two-run homer off Brayan Villareal to get Texas on the board. Porcello gave up six hits and walked three in the win while striking out seven.

Grimm was pulled after allowing the first two Detroit hitters to reach base in the second inning. He surrendered six runs on eight hits and a walk.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Porcello entered the game with a career ERA of 12.27 against Texas, his worst against any American League club. Texas hitters were a combined 26-for-57 (.456) against Porcello coming into the game. ... Prince Fielder and Peralta drove in the other Detroit runs on a sacrifice fly and a groundout, respectively.
