Braves 11, Diamondbacks 5: Jason Heyward's RBI double sparked a seven-run rally in the eighth inning and Brian McCann added a two-run single as host Atlanta claimed its National League-best 23rd comeback victory.
Freddie Freeman hit a two-run homer and Justin Upton had three hits for the Braves, who have seized the first two contests of the three-game set between division leaders. David Hernandez (4-5) recorded only one out in the eighth and was charged with four runs.
Atlanta's rally came after Arizona's A.J. Pollock hit a tying two-run homer in the sixth and Miguel Montero blasted a go-ahead solo shot in the eighth. Jordan Walden (3-1) was credited with the win despite allowing Montero's homer.
Atlanta starter Tim Hudson finally got some support - the Braves had scored two or fewer runs in each of his previous five starts. He had his streak of five straight quality starts snapped after yielding four runs in 5 2/3 innings.
Diamondbacks starter Ian Kennedy allowed four runs on five hits over 4 1/3 innings in his first outing since being handed a 10-game suspension for his role in a brawl with the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 11. He struggled with his control and walked four.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The NL West-leading Diamondbacks have collected at least one extra-base hit in 64 consecutive games, the longest streak in the majors this season. … Montero's home run snapped a streak of 13 scoreless outings by Walden since returning from the disabled list. It also marked the first homer the right-hander has allowed this season. … The Braves improved to 43-9 in games in which they hit a home run. They are 4-25 when they don't go deep.
