: Jay Bruce launched a walk-off solo homer with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning as host Cincinnati took the series opener.

Bruce, who was hitless in his previous three at-bats, took a 1-2 offering from Burke Badenhop (0-3) over the fence in left field for his fifth career game-ending homer for the Reds, who won their fifth straight over Milwaukee at home.

The Brewers forced extra innings when Martin Maldonado hit a solo shot off Cincinnati starter Bronson Arroyo with two outs in the eighth to forge a tie at 3. The Reds stranded a pair of runners in the bottom of the ninth before Alfredo Simon (5-2) worked a perfect 10th to set up Bruce's heroics.

Arroyo allowed three runs - two earned - and a season-high 12 hits while striking out five in 7 2/3 innings. Kyle Lohse gave up three runs - one earned - in six frames for Milwaukee as the teams combined to commit five errors.

Brandon Phillips had an RBI single in the bottom of the first to give Cincinnati a 1-0 lead and Jack Hannahan's sacrifice fly after one of two Milwaukee errors snapped a tie at 2 in the sixth. Rookie Scooter Gennett hit a solo homer in the third for Milwaukee, the first of his career.
