Reds 5, Brewers 1

Reds 5, Brewers 1: Johnny Cueto came off the disabled list to toss six solid innings and added an RBI on a squeeze play as host Cincinnati took two of three.

Cueto (4-0), who was on the DL with a shoulder strain, allowed a run and five hits while striking out three to remain unbeaten in his last 10 starts dating to 2012. He served up a first-inning homer to Carlos Gomez but produced the equalizer in the second by laying down a perfect squeeze to score Xavier Paul from third.

Jay Bruce hit a 469-foot solo shot, Brandon Phillips had an RBI groundout and Donald Lutz hit for Cueto in the sixth and delivered a two-run single to make it 5-1 as the Reds improved to 5-1 against Milwaukee.

Wily Peralta (4-8) gave up five runs in 5 1/3 innings to sustain the loss for the Brewers. His outing snapped a string of six straight quality starts by Milwaukee starters.

Alfredo Simon pitched the last three innings, striking out six, to pick up his first save and the 19th of his career.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Reds optioned RHP Pedro Villarreal to Triple-A Louisville to make room for Cueto on the roster. ... RHP Mike Fiers, who appeared in 11 games for the Brewers earlier this season, broke his right arm Saturday when he was hit by a line drive while pitching for Triple-A Nashville.
