John Mayberry Jr. hit a three-run homer and host Philadelphia nearly squandered a five-run lead before winning two straight games for the first time since the All-Star break.
Carlos Ruiz also homered for the Phillies, who improved to 28-8 versus the Rockies since the start of 2008 and 16-3 at home during that span. Ethan Martin (2-2) yielded two runs and four hits while striking out six over 6 1/3 innings in his fourth career appearance and Jonathan Papelbon worked the ninth inning for his first save since July 11.
Wilin Rosario drove in a pair of runs while extending his hitting streak to 10 games and Troy Tulowitzki homered for the Rockies, who fell to 8-25 in their last 33 road contests. Jeff Manship (0-3) allowed five runs and six hits in five innings in his third start since being called up from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Chase Utley and Domonic Brown led off the fourth inning with singles before Darin Ruf walked. After a fielder's choice grounder by Cody Asche scored Utley, Mayberry crushed a 2-1 pitch into the left field seats.
The Rockies cut the deficit to 5-2 in the seventh inning when Tulowitzki led off with his 21st home run and Todd Helton added an RBI ground-rule double. Colorado loaded the bases with none out in the eighth and Rosario delivered a two-run single with one away to bring the Rockies within a run.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Papelbon, who has 21 saves in 27 chances, had blown two straight saves and six of his previous 13 opportunities. He allowed a leadoff single to rookie 3B Nolan Arenado before picking him off. ... The Rockies placed C Yorvit Torrealba on the seven-day concussion list and RHP Jhoulys Chacin on the bereavement list following the death of his grandmother in Venezuela. They also recalled utilityman Jordan Pacheco and INF Ryan Wheeler from Colorado Springs.
