Ryan Doumit homered and Samuel Deduno pitched six-plus scoreless innings as visiting Minnesota beat Kansas City for its seventh win in eight games.

Doumit and Josh Willingham added run-scoring singles and four relievers combined to retire the final nine Kansas City batters. The loss was the 22nd in 28 games for the Royals, who set a franchise record with their 11th consecutive home defeat.

Deduno (2-1) struck out five and allowed four hits and two walks before exiting after allowing a leadoff double by Lorenzo Cain in the seventh. Glen Perkins worked a perfect ninth for his 12th save in 14 opportunities.

Doumit led off the fourth inning with his fourth homer in seven games, clearing the right-center field fence on a full-count pitch. Willingham hit a run-scoring single down the left-field line in the fifth to make it 2-0 and Doumit lined an RBI base hit to center later in the inning to end the night of Kansas City starter Luis Mendoza.

Mendoza (1-3) allowed three runs and seven hits over 4 1/3 innings in his first loss since May 8.
