Marlins 7, Padres 1
Jacob Turner struck out a career-high seven en route to his first complete game and Jeff Mathis ripped a two-run single to highlight a three-run fourth inning as host Miami defeated San Diego for the first time this season.
Giancarlo Stanton belted a solo homer while Justin Ruggiano and Derek Dietrich collected two hits apiece for the Marlins, who were outscored 20-3 while losing the previous four meetings with the Padres.
Rookie Marcell Ozuna wasted little time extending his hitting streak to eight games, blasting a line drive to shallow center field in the first inning. Ruggiano and Ed Lucas scored as San Diego center fielder Alexi Amarista failed to cleanly make a play. Ozuna recorded the Marlins' third run by scoring on veteran Placido Polanco's sacrifice fly.
After Polanco scored for the 1,000th time in his career on Adeiny Hechavarria's RBI single, Mathis singled to center to give Miami a 6-0 advantage. The base hit spelled the end of the night for Eric Stults (6-6), who yielded a season-high six runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings.
Making his 19th career start, Turner (2-0) overcame Nick Hundley's RBI double in the fifth before shutting down San Diego. The right-hander allowed seven hits while making just 111 pitches.
