Rays 8, Yankees 3

Evan Longoria homered twice and drove in three runs as visiting Tampa Bay took the opener of a four-game series from New York.

Yunel Escobar added a home run, Desmond Jennings recorded three hits and Sean Rodriguez doubled in a run for the Rays, who have won back-to-back games for the first time in nearly two weeks. Matt Moore (9-3) allowed three runs on four hits in 6 1/3 innings to snap a three-start losing streak.

Andy Pettitte (5-5) was reached for five runs and nine hits in 6 1/3 innings as the Yankees fell for the seventh time in the last nine games.

Tampa Bay grabbed a run in the second and two more in the third before Longoria lofted a first-pitch fastball from Pettitte into the first row of the short porch in right to make it 4-0. Moore lost his command and made things interesting in the sixth, walking a pair and allowing a run on a wild pitch before a sacrifice fly and an RBI groundout cut the lead to 4-3.

Rodriguez doubled home Jennings in the seventh and Longoria’s second solo homer to the opposite field made it 6-3 in the eighth. Escobar came up later in the eighth with a runner on second and drove a two-run shot to straightaway center.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Longoria’s third-inning sacrifice fly marked the 500th RBI of his career. … The Rays were playing the 2,500th game in franchise history.
