Phillies 3, Padres 0

Reid Brignac belted a three-run homer with one out in the ninth inning and Cole Hamels recorded a season-high 11 strikeouts as host Philadelphia recorded back-to-back wins for the first time since May 20.

Marlon Byrd struck out for the fourth time to lead off the ninth inning, but Domonic Brown worked a walk against Nick Vincent (0-2) to begin the rally. Carlos Ruiz was hit by a pitch before Brignac deposited a 2-0 slider over the wall in right field for his first homer of the season.

The blast was the second walk-off hit of the campaign for Brignac. He also had the game-winning single to give the Phillies a 6-5 win over the National League East-rival New York Mets on May 30.

Hamels settled for a no-decision against his hometown team despite scattering five hits over eight shutout innings. Jonathan Papelbon (2-1) followed up his 300th career save in Tuesday's 5-2 win in the series opener by striking out one in the ninth.

Starter Tyson Ross permitted four hits over seven shutout innings to receive a no-decision for the Padres, who were blanked for the major league-high 11th time. San Diego has scored just 14 runs en route to dropping seven of its last nine.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Philadelphia SS Jimmy Rollins went 1-for-4 to move within two hits of tying Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt (2,234) for the franchise lead. He also stole two bases to increase his career total to 435, sitting one shy of tying Tris Speaker for 35th most all-time. ... San Diego SS Everth Cabrera went 0-for-4 to push his hitless drought to 23 straight at-bats. ... Hamels, who owns an 8-2 career mark versus the Padres, has not allowed a run in his last 16 2/3 innings pitched.
