Carson Kelly's 4 RBIs help Cubs end White Sox win streak

Carson Kelly went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, including a go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning and two-run double in the eighth, to boost the visiting Chicago Cubs to a 10-5 victory against the Chicago White Sox on Friday.

The Cubs stopped their crosstown rivals' five-game winning streak behind a 14-hit attack that included two-hit efforts from Alex Bregman, Ian Happ and Seiya Suzuki.

Cub pitching overcame solo home runs from Colson Montgomery, Miguel Vargas and Jarred Kelenic. Drew Romo, Montgomery and Vargas had two hits each for the White Sox.

White Sox relievers Trevor Richards and Grant Taylor helped keep the hosts afloat before the Cubs broke through against lefty Bryan Hudson in the seventh. Kelly and Pete Crow-Armstrong delivered consecutive RBI singles against Hudson, marking the first time Hudson (1-1) had been scored upon since March 31, a span of 19 straight appearances.

Jordan Hicks forced home runs on a wild pitch and walk before Kelly's double punctuated a four-run Cubs eighth.

Trent Thornton (2-0) struck out two in two perfect innings to earn the victory.

A two-out rally staked the Cubs to a 1-0 first-inning lead. White Sox starter Sean Burke retired the first two batters before allowing a single to Bregman, who took second on a wild pitch and scored on a Happ RBI single one batter later.

Montgomery answered with a solo shot to lead off the bottom of the second for the White Sox, his 12th homer of the season and third in the past five games.

The Cubs regained the lead on Kelly's fourth-inning RBI single, then added to it with run-scoring doubles from Michael Busch and Suzuki in the fifth.

Tristan Peters had an RBI groundout and Romo hit an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth as the White Sox chipped away at the deficit. Vargas opened the sixth with a solo homer, his 10th of the season, to tie the game at 4-all.

Both starters took no-decisions. Burke spaced four runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings with a walk and five strikeouts. The Cubs' Edward Cabrera allowed three runs and three hits in 4 2/3 innings. He walked three and struck out two.
