Orioles 1, Angels 0
Jeremy Guthrie and two relievers combined on a four-hit shutout, leading the Baltimore Orioles to a 1-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday that completed a six-game sweep of the season series between the teams.
Baltimore's pitching dominated the three games over the weekend, holding Los Angeles scoreless for the final 26 innings of the series after the Angels scored in the first inning Friday night.
Guthrie (8-13) allowed four hits, struck out five and walked one in 8 1/3 innings. He took a two-hitter into the ninth, but Reggie Willits doubled with one out and moved to third on Howie Kendrick's infield hit.
Mike Gonzalez struck out Bobby Abreu and Koji Uehara retired Torii Hunter on a popup for his fourth save in four chances.
Matt Wieters' sacrifice fly in the seventh scored the game's only run off Jered Weaver, who took the loss despite allowing one just run and striking out 11 in eight innings. The inning started with a leadoff single by Luke Scott, who took third on Ty Wigginton's double. After Corey Patterson struck out, Scott scored on Wieters' fly ball.
Weaver (11-10) gave up five hits and walked one. He took over the American League lead in strikeouts with 200.
The Orioles swept three games from the Angels at Camden Yards on Aug. 3-5.
