Orioles 2, Tigers 1 (Game 2)
Jeremy Guthrie pitched eight scoreless innings and Nick Markakis homered as the Baltimore Orioles completed a sweep of a doubleheader with a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Friday.
Julio Lugo added an RBI and Robert Andino went 4-for-4 with a run scored for the Orioles, who won the opener 10-6 earlier in the day.
Guthrie (11-14) allowed just two hits while walking one and striking out five. The right-hander, who pitched seven scoreless innings to earn a win against the Tigers on September 11 as well, had allowed 10 runs in 11 1/3 innings in his two previous starts.
Markakis provided Guthrie with some support when he led off the third with his 11th homer of the season, driving an 0-2 offering from Rick Porcello over the fence in right.
Porcello (10-12) allowed 12 hits in 6 1/3 innings but managed to limit the damage to two runs by inducing four double plays. The 21-year-old did manage to lower his ERA below 5.00 for the first time since April 14.
Koji Uehara allowed a solo homer to Don Kelly in the ninth but hung on for his 12th save.
