Nova gave up five hits while striking out seven and walking one in his second big-league start.
Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli was 4-for-4 with a run scored. Marcus Thames hit his ninth home run, a solo shot in the second inning, and Brett Gardner added an RBI single in the third inning for New York.
Mariano Rivera closed out the ninth inning for his 27th save.
Gavin Floyd took the loss for the White Sox, allowing two earned runs over 6 2/3 innings while striking out four and walking three.
Juan Pierre hit an RBI single and stole his league-leading 51st base of the year for the White Sox.
Chicago had seven hits on the day, but stranded nine runners.
