Diamondbacks 3, Reds 1

Rodrigo Lopez pitched seven strong innings and Kelly Johnson went 3-for-4 with an RBI as the Arizona Diamondbacks earned a split of their four-game series against the Cincinnati Reds with a 3-1 victory.

Gerardo Parra and Stephen Drew drove in a run apiece for the Diamondbacks, who won for just the third time in 12 games.

Lopez (6-14) posted his first win since July 8, allowing just one run and eight hits. The journeyman struck out four without a walk in ending a string of seven straight losses.

Cincinnati took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Drew Stubbs led off with a single and scored on Jonny Gomes' double three batters later. The Reds threatened again in the fourth, putting runners on the corners with one out, but Lopez escaped unscathed and the Diamondbacks gave him all the support he needed in the fifth.

Edinson Volquez began the frame by walking Miguel Montero and Ryan Church before Parra delivered an RBI double to knot the contest. Following a groundout, Drew and Johnson hit back-to-back run-scoring singles to give Arizona a 3-1 advantage.

Lopez made it stand for three more innings and Aaron Heilman struck out one in a perfect eighth before Juan Gutierrez worked a scoreless ninth for his 10th save in 12 opportunities.

Volquez (3-3) yielded three runs and six hits in 6 2/3 innings. The 27-year old, who walked two and struck out seven while throwing two wild pitches, fell to 0-2 with a 6.16 ERA over his last four starts.
