Phillies 10, Marlins 5

Roy Halladay became the National League's first 19-game winner and Wilson Valdez and Raul Ibanez had three hits and drove in two runs apiece as the Philadelphia Phillies recorded a 10-5 triumph over the Florida Marlins on Wednesday.

Chase Utley belted a solo homer, Ross Gload had a run-scoring double and Shane Victorino, Placido Polanco and Jayson Werth added RBI singles as Philadelphia (86-61) capped the three-game sweep and secured its ninth win in 10 games.

The Phillies also extended their lead in the NL East to three games over the Atlanta Braves (83-64), who dropped a 4-2 decision to the Washington Nationals on Wednesday afternoon.

Halladay (19-10) became the first Philadelphia pitcher to win 19 games in a season since John Denny accomplished the feat in 1983 during his Cy Young Award-winning season.

On Wednesday, Halladay allowed three runs and 10 hits in six innings while striking out nine to record his ninth win in his last 11 outings.

Gaby Sanchez belted a solo homer and drove in two and Dan Uggla had an RBI single for Florida (73-72), which went 5-13 against Philadelphia this season.

Jorge Sosa (2-3) struggled right out of the gate in this one. The journeyman right-hander permitted six runs and six hits in 2 1/3 innings to take the loss in his first start since the 2007 season.
