John Danks pitched a three-hitter for his second career shutout as the Chicago White Sox defeated the host Seattle Mariners 3-0 on Saturday.
Danks (6-9) matched a season-high with 10 strikeouts to win for the sixth time in seven decisions after opening the season with eight consecutive losses. Danks has beaten Seattle six straight times.
Paul Konerko had a run-scoring single and Alexei Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth off Michael Pineda (9-8) as Chicago remained seven games behind Detroit in the American League Central.
Alejandro De Aza added a solo homer to right field in the eighth off Mariners reliever Chance Ruffin. De Aza had two of Chicago’s four hits.
Pineda (9-8) allowed two runs, three hits and struck out eight in six innings.
Seattle has lost eight of its last 11 games.
