Yankees 3, Angels 2

CC Sabathia won his fourth straight start and Alex Rodriguez blasted a two-run homer to lead the visiting New York Yankees to a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday.

Sabathia (7-3) gave up two runs – one earned – on eight hits while striking out three over 8 2/3 innings. Mariano Rivera retired his only batter on one pitch for his 15th save.

Sabathia, who came within one out of his second complete game this season, has gone at least eight innings in his last four starts.

Robinson Cano gave the Yankees a brief early lead with his two-out home run in the fourth inning off Ervin Santana (3-5), who allowed three runs on seven hits over seven innings.

Rodriguez’s two-run homer in the top of sixth was his 68th career homer against the Angels, his most against any team.

The Angels came within a run on Maicer Izturis’ two-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth.

Derek Jeter singled in the seventh inning for his 2,985th hit, tying him with Sam Rice for 28th on the all-time hit list.
