Eric Thames and Edwin Encarnacion each had three hits and three RBIs as the Toronto Blue Jays extended their winning streak to four games with a 16-7 rout of the New York Yankees on Thursday night.
Travis Snider also had three hits and drove in two runs for the Blue Jays, who pushed across eight of their season-high 16 runs in the first inning – all with two out – to knock out Yankees starter Bartolo Colon.
Toronto’s Jose Bautista, baseball’s home run leader with 31, left the game in the fourth inning after he twisted his right ankle sliding into third. He is listed as day-to-day.
Andruw Jones belted a pair of home runs and Curtis Granderson had a two-run triple to help the Yankees pull within 9-7 after 5 1/2 innings before the Blue Jays pulled away.
Toronto starter Jo-Jo Reyes (5-7) got the victory despite getting shelled for seven runs and 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Colon (6-5) lasted just two-thirds of an inning in absorbing his second straight defeat. He was charged with eight runs – three earned – and six hits.
Every starter had at least one hit as Toronto amassed 20 hits against five Yankee pitchers.
