Rangers 7, Blue Jays 6
Mitch Moreland's seventh-inning solo home run lifted the Texas Rangers to a 7-6 triumph over the visiting Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday.
Moreland ripped an Octavio Dotel (1-1) offering over the wall in center field to lead off the frame. His third homer of the campaign helped the Rangers (15-9) salvage a game in which they squandered a four-run lead.
Cody Eppley (1-0) tossed two innings in relief for his first major-league victory, while Darren Oliver worked around a pair of ninth-inning singles for his second save.
The Rangers erased an early 2-0 deficit with six unearned runs in the third inning off Toronto starter Jo-Jo Reyes, capped by two-run doubles by Michael Young and Mike Napoli.
Toronto's Mike McCoy had a run-scoring single and Jose Bautista added a two-run double in the fourth to close the gap to 6-5, and Toronto drew even on Juan Rivera's solo shot to left in the top of the seventh, his second of the campaign.
Reyes continued to struggle for Toronto (11-13), surrendering six runs - all unearned - on five hits over 2 2/3 innings. He walked one and struck out one.
Texas starter Derek Holland was only slightly better, tagged for five runs on 11 hits over five innings with three walks and two strikeouts.
