Braves 6, Phillies 3
Chipper Jones picked up his 2,500th career hit, but it was No. 2,499 that proved the most meaningful.
Jones hit a three-run double in the fourth inning that chased Philadelphia starter Cliff Lee and paced the host Atlanta Braves to a 6-3 victory on Friday.
The hit glanced off Phillies center fielder Shane Victorino's glove and produced the game's final runs.
Jones added his 2,500th hit in the sixth inning with a single off reliever Antonio Bastardo as Atlanta halted a three-game losing streak.
Lee (1-1) allowed 10 hits, struck out three and walked one. He threw 73 pitches and 51 for strikes, although too many of his pitches were up in the strike zone and accessible to the Atlanta hitters.
Tim Hudson (2-0) gave up two runs in the first and another in the second, but the Braves bats bailed him out and tied the score with three runs in the bottom of the second.
Hudson dug in and showed why he is 132-2 when staked to a lead of three or more runs. He scattered eight hits and struck out two in 7 2/3 innings, and gave way to reliever Jonny Venters, who struck out Raul Ibanez with a runner at second base.
Craig Kimbrel pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his third save.
