Padres 4, Braves 1
The San Diego Padres rallied with four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning off Jonny Venters to beat the visiting Atlanta Braves 4-1 on Sunday.
Heath Bell worked a scoreless ninth inning for his 20th save in relief of Mike Adams (3-2). San Diego improved to 5-38 when trailing after seven innings.
Atlanta took a 1-0 lead in the top of the eighth when Will Venable’s error in right field allowed Eric Hinske to score on Jordan Schafer’s two-out double.
Braves starter Tim Hudson allowed six hits while striking out eight over six scoreless innings.
Venters, who gave up four singles and two walks, has only allowed four or more runs only one other time in his career.
In his first start this season, Padres starter Cory Luebke threw 75 pitches and gave up one run on one hit while striking out six over five innings.
