Marlins 5, Braves 4 (12)
Mike Stanton, who hadn't started in three days because of a sore hamstring, delivered a pinch-hit RBI single in the 12th to give the visiting Florida Marlins a 5-4 win over the Atlanta Braves on Monday.
The loss keeps Atlanta's lead in the NL wild-card race at 4½ games over St. Louis, which lost a 6-5 decision at Pittsburgh on Monday.
Stanton lined a 1-2 pitch from reliever Cristhian Martinez into center field to score Brett Hayes, who walked to start the inning against losing pitcher Anthony Varvaro (0-2).
Clay Hensley (4-6) collected the win with two shutout innings and Leo Nunez picked up his 35th save with a scoreless 12th.
Twice the Braves erased two-run deficits to stay in the game, and they tied it in the eighth on a single by Alex Gonzalez. The Braves had the bases loaded with one out in the ninth, but Brian McCann and Martin Prado could not produce the winning run.
