Marlins 6, Mets 2
John Buck hit a grand slam in the fourth inning, and Josh Johnson didn't allow a hit until the seventh as the host Florida Marlins spoiled Terry Collins' debut as New York Mets' manager with a 6-2 victory on Friday.
Buck battled back from an 0-2 count and fouled off three 2-2 pitches from Mets starter Mike Pelfrey before connecting for his third career grand slam to stake Johnson to a 4-0 lead. Gaby Sanchez added an RBI single in the fifth to make it 5-0 before the Mets recorded a hit.
Willie Harris broke up the no-hit bid with a double to left-center leading off the seventh and spark a two-run Mets uprising, but reliever Mike Dunn struck out Scott Hairston to strand two runners and get out of the inning.
Johnson (1-0) allowed two runs on three hits over 6 2/3 innings, struck out three and walked two.
Pelfrey (0-1) allowed five runs on four hits and walked four in 4 1/3 innings.
