Mets 8, Reds 6

Jason Pridie and Daniel Murphy each knocked in a pair of runs, and the visiting New York Mets took advantage of shaky defense by the Cincinnati Reds en route to an 8-6 victory Tuesday night.

Pridie delivered a two-run double in the sixth to give the Mets a 6-5 lead and Murphy (three hits) singled in what proved to be the winning run in the seventh.

The Mets’ first six runs were unearned as the Reds made three errors. Cincinnati came into the game with the sixth least errors in the majors, and had allowed only 22 unearned runs.

David Wright stayed hot with two hits and an RBI for the Mets. Wright is 10-for-24 with seven RBIs since returning from the disabled list.

Edgar Renteria doubled in two runs and Joey Votto followed with a two-run homer in the fifth as the Reds took a 5-4 lead.

Mets starter Jon Niese (10-8) allowed five runs in five innings for his third win in his last four decisions.

Tim Byrdak struck out Jay Bruce to end the game for his first save since 2007.

Johnny Cueto (6-4) gave up seven hits and no earned runs in five innings to take the loss, his second since May 29.
