Rockies 7, Phillies 1

Jason Giambi belted three homers and drove in seven runs to power the visiting Colorado Rockies to a 7-1 rout of the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday night.

Giambi's first three-homer game of his career made an easy winner out of Jhoulys Chacin (5-2), who struck out nine and limited Philadelphia to one run on four hits in seven innings as Colorado salvaged a split of the two-game series.

The 40-year-old Giambi, who was in the lineup only because Todd Helton developed back stiffness, became the oldest player to have three homers and seven RBIs in a game since Stan Musial in 1954.

Philadelphia’s Kyle Kendrick (3-3), a last-minute starter after Joe Blanton was scratched with a sore elbow, was victimized for Giambi's first two homers – a three-run shot in the first and a two-run blast in the third.

Giambi, who entered batting .115 and was without a hit since April 10, took Danys Baez deep in the fifth before striking out in his final two at-bats.

Jose Lopez had four hits and Seth Smith added three for the Rockies, who saw Carlos Gonzalez exit the game in the third with tightness in his groin.

Raul Ibanez had an RBI double for the Phillies.
