Phillies 10, Cardinals 2

Carlos Ruiz collected four hits, and Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley had two-run singles to highlight a nine-run eighth inning as the visiting Philadelphia Phillies cruised to a 10-2 victory over the Albert Pujols-less St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday.

The Phillies sent 14 batters to the plate against five Cardinals relievers in the top of the eighth, which lasted 43 minutes, 26 seconds.

After Placido Polanco was plunked with the bases loaded to tie the game 2-2, Ben Francisco and St. Louis native Ryan Howard had RBI singles, and Ruiz and Michael Martinez added bases-loaded walks.

Roy Halladay was unsuccessful in his second attempt to become baseball's first 10-game winner this season. The reigning National League Cy Young Award winner received his second straight no-decision after yielding one run on four hits in six innings.

Michael Stutes (2-0) secured his team's ninth win in 11 outings despite allowing the first run by a Philadelphia reliever in 18 innings.

Trever Miller (0-1) permitted two runs on one hit as the Cardinals fell out of first place in the NL Central with their eighth setback in 10 games.
