Nationals 2, Rockies
Jordan Zimmermann pitched 6 1/3 superb innings and Rick Ankiel belted a solo home run as the Washington Nationals salvaged the finale of their three-game series against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday with a 2-0 home triumph.
Zimmermann (6-7) rebounded from his worst performance in 12 starts, allowing just four singles and striking out six without issuing a walk. The 25-year old, who improved to 3-4 at home, has walked one or less in nine of his last 10 outings.
Drew Storen worked around a double in the ninth for his 23rd saved in 26 opportunities.
After five scoreless innings, Roger Bernadina gave Zimmermann a 1-0 lead in the sixth with an RBI single. Ankiel, who entered as a defensive replacement in the top of the eighth, launched his third homer of the year in the bottom half to double the advantage.
Colorado's Jhoulys Chacin (8-7) remained winless in five starts despite yielding just one run and four hits over seven innings.
Todd Helton and Ian Stewart had two hits apiece for the Rockies, who scored three runs or less in each game of their 2-5 road trip.
