Nationals 5, Rockies 3
Ryan Zimmerman had a two-run triple and Mike Morse homered as the Washington Nationals topped the host Colorado Rockies 5-3 on Friday.
Rockies starter Juan Nicasio was hit on the right side of the head with a line drive off the bat of Ian Desmond to lead off the second inning. Nicasio, who immediately fell to the ground, moved his hands and legs before being placed on a stability board and carted off the field.
Nicasio (4-4) allowed Zimmerman’s triple in the first but escaped the jam without further damage. Edgmer Escalona came on in relief and allowed two runs in 4 1/3 innings.
Jordan Zimmermann (7-9) struck out eight and was charged with two runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings to snap a three-start winless streak.
The Rockies rallied for three runs in the sixth, but All-Star Tyler Clippard came on and limited the damage.
Drew Storen worked the ninth for his 28th save.
