Padres 7, Giants 3

Chase Headley belted his 30th homer and drove in three runs as host San Diego snapped its three-game losing streak.

Eric Stults (8-3) settled down after yielding Hunter Pence’s three-run homer in the first inning, giving up three runs over six frames. The loss was just San Francisco’s fourth in its last 17 games.

The Padres took a 5-3 lead in the third on Headley’s two-run homer and Jesus Guzman’s solo blast off Madison Bumgarner (16-11), who gave up five runs (four earned) over 4 2/3 innings.

Marco Scutaro singled in the fifth inning to extend his hitting streak to a career-best 17 games for the Giants, who clinched the National League West last week.

Giants catcher Buster Posey went 2-for-2 and is hitting an NL-leading .337, eight points ahead of Pittsburgh's Andrew McCutchen with four games to play.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Bumgarner dropped to 31-4 in his career when receiving at least three runs of support. … Headley is the 17th player in Padres' history to hit 30 homers in a season. ... San Diego improved to 25-11 at Petco Park since July 16.
