Braves 6, Marlins 4
Justin Upton homered among his three hits and Julio Teheran allowed one earned run in 7 1/3 innings as visiting Atlanta won for the third time in four games.
Brian McCann and Upton each drove in two runs for the Braves, who extended their lead on Washington in the National League East to six games. Teheran (7-4) won for the third time in five starts, surrendering four runs on seven hits, and Craig Kimbrel pitched a perfect ninth for his 24th save.
Rob Brantly went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in the second following Chris Johnson’s error for the Marlins, and Logan Morrison and Adeiny Hechavarria added two hits apiece. Miami starter Henderson Alvarez (0-1) gave up five runs (four earned) on eight hits in six innings.
Brantly’s homer staked Miami to a 3-1 lead. After the Braves rallied to tie the game at 3 in the third on Upton’s double and Brian McCann’s sacrifice fly, the Marlins took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the inning on Morrison’s single.
Upton scored on McCann’s single to left in the fifth to even the score at 4. Teheran’s infield single in the sixth scored B.J. Upton to give the Braves a 5-4 advantage and Justin Upton’s 16th homer of the season – a 424-foot blast to left off Ryan Webb -- made it 6-4.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Braves are averaging 6.3 runs per game in July. … Miami CF Marcell Ozuna threw out Johnson at home plate to end the fourth inning. … Atlanta improved to 5-0 at Miami this season and is 12-2 at Marlins Park since the stadium opened last season. The Braves lead the season series 6-2.
