Astros 2, Mariners 0

Rookie Brett Oberholtzer scattered four hits to record his first complete game and Jason Castro snapped a scoreless tie with an RBI ground-rule double in the eighth inning as host Houston salvaged the finale of the four-game series.

Making his sixth career start, Oberholtzer (4-1) struck out five to overcome a rocky effort in his previous outing. The 24-year-old left-hander yielded five runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Chicago White Sox on Monday.

Jose Altuve capped his three-hit performance by leading off the eighth inning with a double against Charlie Furbush (2-5), who came on in relief of Hisashi Iwakuma. Castro delivered a double to right-center field to plate Altuve before coming around to score on pinch-hitter Brandon Barnes' squeeze bunt.

Trevor Crowe collected two hits for the Astros, who snapped a five-game losing streak to remain nine defeats away from their third consecutive 100-loss season.

Iwakuma settled for a no-decision despite allowing six hits and striking out seven over as many scoreless innings.
