Padres 5, Dodgers 2

Chris Denorfia homered and Chase Headley tripled in a pair of runs as host San Diego got to Clayton Kershaw early and took down Los Angeles.

Kyle Blanks added an RBI single during a three-run third inning to support Tim Stauffer (1-0), who allowed one run in four innings after starter Clayton Richard was lifted just two pitches into the game. Richard felt pain in the AC joint of his left shoulder.

Hanley Ramirez drove in a run and Yasiel Puig added two hits for the Dodgers, who have dropped three of their last four games. Kershaw (5-5) was reached for four runs on seven hits in six innings to run his streak of winless starts to six.

Juan Uribe got Los Angeles on the board with an RBI groundout in the first, but Denorfia got back the run in the bottom of the frame as he drove a 3-2 fastball into the stands in left. San Diego got two on with one out in the third and took the lead on Headley’s triple that bounced around the left-field corner.

Blanks made it 4-1 and Denorfia added a sacrifice fly in the seventh before Ramirez’s RBI double got the Dodgers another run. Tyson Ross followed Stauffer with three scoreless innings, Dale Thayer allowed a run in the eighth and Huston Street worked the ninth for his 15th save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Los Angeles OF Andre Ethier (knee) was given the start off but appeared as a pinch hitter.
