Marlins 8, Nationals 2

Adeiny Hechavarria hit a three-run homer and Justin Ruggiano also drove in three runs as host Miami routed Washington.

Juan Pierre had three hits and Greg Dobbs had two RBIs as the Marlins set a season high for runs scored even though All-Star outfielder Giancarlo Stanton missed his fifth straight game with a shoulder ailment.

Alex Sanabia (2-1) allowed two runs and six hits in six innings. Washington’s runs came on back-to-back doubles by Tyler Moore and Steve Lombardozzi in the sixth.

Ruggiano delivered a run-scoring single in the fourth and Hechavarria slammed a three-run shot to left later in the inning off Nationals starter Dan Haren (1-2). Dobbs drew a bases-loaded walk in the fifth to end Haren’s night and Ruggiano added a two-run double to make it 7-0.

Haren allowed seven runs – only three earned due to a throwing error by Ryan Zimmerman – and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings while dropping to 1-4 in six career starts against the Marlins.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hechavarria’s homer was the first in eight home games for Miami and snapped a club record-tying streak of nine games without one. … Washington OFs Bryce Harper and Denard Span sat out with flu-like symptoms, and 2B Danny Espinosa (wrist) missed his second straight game. … The Marlins had scored just nine runs over their previous seven games.
