Twins 8, Angels 6

Joe Mauer had four hits and three RBIs for the second consecutive game to lead host Minnesota to its second straight win in the three-game series.

Brian Dozier had two hits and drove in two runs and Ryan Doumit singled, doubled and scored twice for the Twins. Minnesota starter Mike Pelfrey (2-1) worked five innings, allowing four runs and seven hits.

Mike Trout had two hits and three RBIs and Chris Iannetta, Mark Trumbo and Luis Jimenez added two hits apiece for the Angels. Los Angeles starter Jason Vargas (0-2) lasted 3 1/3 innings, giving up five runs and nine hits while failing to record a strikeout.

The Twins scored three runs in the second inning before the Angels answered with three in the third. The Angels came back to tie the score at 4 with a run in the fourth, but the Twins took the lead for good on Justin Morneau’s RBI single to right in their half of the fourth.

Minnesota padded its lead in the fifth on Dozier’s two-out, two-run single to center and Mauer’s two-out RBI single in the seventh. Morneau and Wilkin Ramirez added two hits apiece for Minnesota.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Mauer had four hits in back-to-back games for the second time in his career. The other was June 26-27, 2006 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. .. Ramirez left the game in the fifth after getting hit in the upper back on a pick-off attempt while diving back to first base. ... The Angels have retired the opposition in order three times in the last three games.
