Diamondbacks 12, Padres 6

Paul Goldschmidt went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs and Martin Prado also homered and had three RBIs as host Arizona rolled past San Diego.

A.J. Pollock had three hits to go with three runs scored and two RBIs and Chris Owings went 4-for-4 as the Diamondbacks erupted for a franchise-record eight first-inning runs while beating the Padres for the second time in three days. Miguel Montero, Gerardo Parra and Prado added two hits apiece as Arizona racked up 17 overall.

Chase Anderson (3-0) gave up four runs (one earned) and eight hits in five innings to win his third straight start since reaching the majors. San Diego starter Tim Stauffer (2-1) lasted just one-third of an inning and was charged with seven runs and six hits.

Goldschmidt doubled in the first run of the first inning and Prado and Owings added run-scoring singles for a 3-0 edge. Ender Inciarte singled home two and Pollock doubled in two before Parra capped the uprising with an RBI double.

Prado hit a two-run homer to second to make it 10-0 and Goldschmidt hit a mammoth 470-foot, two-run blast off the scoreboard in center field in the seventh. Tommy Medica went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs for San Diego and fell a single short of becoming the first player in franchise history to hit for the cycle.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Padres C Yasmani Grandal was in the lineup and went 0-for-3 after X-rays on his left hand came back negative, one day after Goldschmidt’s swing hit his glove hand and caused his departure. … Owings was in the lineup because regular Diamondbacks SS Cliff Pennington sat out with a hand injury. … San Diego acquired minor-league RHP Ronald Herrera from Oakland to complete the trade in which it sent 1B/OF Kyle Blanks to the Athletics for minor-league OF Jake Goebbert.
