Dodgers 2, Padres 0

SAN DIEGO -- Left-hander Alex Wood shut out the San Diego Padres on three hits over seven innings and right fielder Andre Ethier reached base four times and scored both runs as the Los Angeles Dodgers won 2-0 at Petco Park on Saturday night.

The win was the Dodgers' 10th in their last 12 games and kept them 7 1/2 games ahead of the San Francisco Giants in the National League West. The Dodgers (77-58) are 19 games over .500 for the first time this season.

The Padres (65-71) were shut out for the major-league-leading 17th time this season.

Wood (10-9) won a pitching duel with Padres right-handed starter Tyson Ross.

The Dodgers allowed just eight baserunners. In addition to the three hits, Wood issued four walks (two in both the fourth and seventh innings) and hit one batter. He struck out four.

Right-hander Kenley Jansen picked up his 29th save.

Ross (10-10) allowed one run on five hits, two walks and a hit batter over six innings. He struck out three.

Ethier reached base to lead off four innings. He doubled in the second and fourth, singled in the sixth and drew a leadoff walk from Padres right-handed reliever Joaquin Benoit in the eighth, when he scored on center fielder Joc Pederson's two-out, pop-fly single.

Although Ross was struggling with his command, the Dodgers didn't score the game's first run until the fourth.

Ethier opened the inning with a double to right-center and scored on left fielder Carl Crawford's ground-rule double to right.

Matt Kemp had two of the Padres' three hits, including a single to lead off the sixth. But Wood picked him off.
