Former L.A. ace Greinke pitches D-backs past Dodgers
PHOENIX -- Arizona's Paul Goldschmidt and Jake Lamb homered and right-hander Zack Greinke won his sixth straight game in the Diamondbacks' 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Chase Field on Monday.
Greinke (9-3) gave up two runs and seven hits in seven innings in his first appearance against the Dodgers since leaving them for a $206.5 million free agent contract with the Diamondbacks last winter.
Greinke also sparked the Diamondbacks' go-ahead rally with a one-out single in the sixth inning. He was forced out at second base on Nick Ahmed's grounder to second base, but Ahmed stole second and scored on Jean Segura's single to make it 3-2.
Arizona right-hander Brad Ziegler recorded a five-out save after entering with the bases loaded and one out in the eighth inning. Ziegler struck out pinch-hitter Enrique Hernandez before center fielder Michael Bourn made a diving catch on Howie Kendrick's sinking liner to end the inning.
Ziegler has 13 saves this season and has converted his last 41, tied for the seventh-longest streak in major league history.
Bases-empty homers by Goldschmidt and Lamb gave Arizona a 2-1 lead before Corey Seager tied the game with a solo homer in the fifth.
Seager and Justin Turner had two hits for the Dodgers (33-32), who have lost four of their last five.
Arizona manager Chip Hale went to the mound with one out and a runner on first base in the seventh and left Greinke in. Greinke got Seager on a fly ball to left and struck out Turner to end the inning.
Greinke struck out six, walked two, and threw a season-high 119 pitches. He threw that many once with the Dodgers last season.
Arizona (29-37) has won in a row, its first three-game home winning streak of the season, and four of six.
Goldschmidt hit a line drive down the right field line that was first ruled another homer in the sixth inning, but the call was overturned after review. The ball was clearly foul.
Seager singled with one out in the first inning and scored on Turner's double to the base of the center field fence to break Greinke's streak of 16 consecutive scoreless innings.
Goldschmidt tied the game with his solo homer off right-hander Mike Bolsinger in the bottom of the first.
Lamb homered with two outs in the third to give Arizona a 2-1 lead. Both of Arizona's homers came on curveballs from Bolsinger.
Seager tied the game with his 12th homer of the season in the fifth.
One batter later, Arizona left fielder Peter O'Brien leapt at the warning track to take a possible homer away from Turner.
Greinke singled and was forced out at second base by Nick Ahmed, who stole second and scored on Jean Segura's two-out single for a 3-2 lead to knock out Bolsinger.
