Orioles 6, Tigers 3
The Baltimore Orioles got seven solid innings from starter Kevin Millwood and some timely hitting in downing the Detroit Tigers 6-3 on Friday night.
Millwood, who leads the American League with 15 losses, allowed three runs on eight hits over six innings while striking out three. David Hernandez picked up the win in relief while Koji Uehara came on for the save in the ninth.
Baltimore broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the eight with a sacrifice fly from catcher Matt Wieters and an RBI single from Adam Jones. Jake Fox had a pair of hits including his seventh home run of the year, a two-run shot in the fifth inning.
Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera hit a two-run shot, his 34th of the season, in the bottom of the sixth inning and also added an RBI double. He now has an AL-leading 113 runs batted in this season.
Armando Galarraga went seven innings allowing three runs for the Tigers. Phil Coke took the loss out of the bullpen.
Austin Jackson had three hits, including a triple in the bottom of the seventh off Millwood, but Hernandez came on out of the bullpen to get out of the inning.
The Orioles have now won five of their last six games.
