Angels 7, Mariners 4
Torii Hunter drove in four runs and Ervin Santana pitched into the eighth inning as the Los Angeles Angels roughed up Felix Hernandez in a 7-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday night.
Hunter had a two-run single and two-run double off Hernandez and Hideki Matsui hit his 19th homer off the Mariners' ace. Howie Kendrick and Bobby Abreu also had RBIs.
Hernandez (11-11) allowed seven runs - four earned - on six hits in 6 1/3 innings with five strikeouts and three walks.
Hernandez was being touted as a Cy Young Award candidate despite his pedestrian record because he is among the American League leaders in strikeouts, innings pitched and quality starts. He did retake the major-league lead in strikeouts with 214, three more than the Angels' Jered Weaver.
Santana (16-9) looked more like the Cy Young Award candidate than Hernandez for 7 1/3 shutout innings, allowing just three hits, but Michael Saunders walked, Josh Wilson doubled and Ichiro Suzuki ended the scoring drought with a three-run homer, chasing Santana.
Santana gave up five hits and had five strikeouts and Fernando Rodney got the final out for his ninth save.
