Diamondbacks 9, Reds 5
Ramon Hernandez lifted a three-run homer and the Cincinnati Reds used two big innings to win their sixth straight with Thursday’s 9-5 triumph over the Arizona Diamondbacks to complete the three-game sweep.
Jay Bruce homered and Drew Stubbs and Joey Votto each drove in a pair of runs in guiding the Reds to their eighth win in a row at Chase Field.
Travis Wood (4-1) picked up his fourth consecutive victory after allowing a run on four hits over 6 1/3 innings. He struck out six and walked one.
The left-hander received plenty of support with Cincinnati plating four runs in the fourth and five more in the eighth to account for the scoring. Stubbs had a two-run single and Votto followed with a double that plated two runs for the 9-1 bulge.
The runs turned out to be important as the Diamondbacks responded with four runs in the bottom half to make things respectable. Chris Young provided the big blow with a three-run homer after Justin Upton singled home a run.
Joe Saunders (1-3) gave up four runs on eight hits in six innings for Arizona, which has dropped six of seven.
