Giants 1, Padres 0

Juan Uribe’s fielder’s choice plated the lone run and six pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout as the San Francisco Giants beat the host San Diego Padres 1-0 on Friday night.

The victory moved San Francisco into a virtual first-place tie in the National League West. San Diego leads by one percentage point.

Aubrey Huff led off the seventh inning by being hit on the elbow by Padres starter Clayton Richard. Huff stole second, narrowly beat a throw to third on an infield grounder and then scored when Uribe barely beat a throw to first on a potential inning-ending double-play grounder.

Brian Wilson got the last five outs for his 42nd save of the season. Santiago Casilla (7-2) got the win with 1 1/3 innings of relief.

Richard (12-7) allowed just two hits and one walk in six-plus innings, losing to the Giants for the first time in four decisions this season.

Nick Hundley had two of San Diego’s three hits.

San Francisco starter Jonathan Sanchez lasted just five innings despite allowing just one hit. Sanchez walked a season-high seven hitters and struck out four.
