Orioles 6, White Sox 4
Nick Markakis hit a three-run double to key a five-run fifth inning, propelling the Baltimore Orioles to a 6-4 victory over the host Chicago White Sox on Sunday afternoon.
After taking a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on Luke Scott’s home run, the Orioles broke the game open with five in the fifth against Gavin Floyd (3-2).
Mark Reynolds led off with a solo homer and Markakis cleared the bases on a double to center with nobody out before coming around to score on Scott’s single.
Brent Lillibridge homered for the White Sox in the bottom of the inning to make it 6-1, but that was all they could muster in six innings against rookie Zach Britton (5-1), who surrendered just five hits.
Chicago added a bases-loaded walk in the seventh and got a two-run homer from Adam Dunn with two out in the eighth.
Kevin Gregg worked the ninth inning for Baltimore, picking up his fifth save despite allowing the first two hitters to reach base.
Floyd lasted six innings, allowing six earned runs on seven hits and a pair of walks.
