White Sox 6, Orioles 2
Paul Konerko homered twice and drove in four runs, and Mark Buehrle tossed 6 2/3 shutout innings as the host Chicago White Sox avoided a four-game sweep with a 6-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night.
Chicago, which had lost five in a row and 15 of its last 18, took the lead for good on an RBI single by Juan Pierre in the third. Konerko drove in a pair of runs, one on a fourth-inning homer and another on a sacrifice fly in the sixth, before Alex Rios added a solo shot in the seventh against Jeremy Guthrie (1-4).
Konerko capped the scoring for the White Sox with his eighth homer of the year, a two-run shot in the eighth.
Buehrle (2-3) took care of the rest. He allowed eight hits and walked four, but consistently worked his way out of trouble. The Orioles had a runner in scoring position in five of the first six innings, but failed to convert any of those opportunities.
Derrek Lee broke up the shutout with a two-run homer against Chris Sale with two out in the ninth inning.
Guthrie (1-4) worked seven innings, and allowed four runs, five hits, two walks and struck out four.
