Mariners 3, White Sox 2

Brendan Ryan delivered the game-ending, two-out single in the bottom of the ninth inning and Felix Hernandez pitched a five-hitter as the Seattle Mariners defeated the Chicago White Sox 3-2 on Friday.

Jack Cust and Jack Wilson hit one-out singles against Chicago reliever Matt Thornton (0-3) and pinch-runner Adam Kennedy moved to third on Michael Saunders’ flyout to center. Ryan singled to center to the right of the diving attempt by Chicago second baseman Gordon Beckham to drive home Kennedy with the decisive run.

Hernandez (4-2) struck out six and walked two while winning his third straight decision and helped Seattle to its eighth win in 10 games.

Chicago (11-22), which has the worst record in the majors, has lost three straight and 18 of its last 22.

Carlos Quentin led off the Chicago seventh with a game-tying homer.

Chicago struck first on Paul Konerko’s sacrifice fly that scored Juan Pierre.

Seattle tied the game on Milton Bradley’s double in the sixth. One out later, Justin Smoak doubled home Bradley to give the Mariners a 2-1 lead.

White Sox starter Phil Humber allowed two runs and three hits in seven innings.
