White Sox 4, Cubs 3

A.J. Pierzynski's two-run triple provided an early spark and the Chicago White Sox held on for a 4-3 home win over the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night to capture the three-game series.

The White Sox took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning when Pierzynski ripped a 2-2 pitch from Doug Davis (1-6) deep to right center and then scored on a bunt single by Brent Lillibridge.

The Cubs got within a run in the sixth inning after a solo shot by Carlos Peña and an RBI single by Jeff Baker, but four White Sox relievers combined to hold the visitors scoreless the rest of the way. Sergio Santos pitched a perfect ninth for his 14th save of the season.

White Sox starter Jake Peavy (3-1) worked 5 1/3 innings for the victory, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks.

Davis gave up four runs on eight hits in his five innings to take the loss.
