Yankees 6, Blue Jays 2
Bartolo Colon pitched into the seventh inning for his first win in nearly two years and the New York Yankees survived a ninth-inning scare in a 6-2 victory over the host Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday.
Colon (1-1), signed by the Yankees in the offseason after missing the entire 2010 campaign, kept the Jays' hitters off-balance all night. The veteran righthander surrendered two runs on five hits over 6 2/3 innings, striking out seven to earn his first victory since May 26, 2009 with the Chicago White Sox.
David Robertson, Boone Logan, Lance Pendleton and Rafael Soriano finished up with 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, with Soriano getting Yunel Escobar to fly out with the bases loaded to record his first save of the season.
Curtis Granderson homered and drove in a pair of runs while Robinson Cano added two RBIs as the Yankees earned a split of their two-game series with the Jays (8-10). Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez added RBIs while Mark Teixeira finished with three hits as New York victimized losing pitcher Brett Cecil (1-2), who was lit up for five runs
on six hits over five innings. He walked four and struck out four while
seeing his ERA balloon to 6.86, worst among Toronto starters.
J.P. Arencibia belted a solo home run in the second inning and Jayson Nix added a run-scoring single in the seventh for Toronto, which fell for the ninth time in the past 13 games.
