Blue Jays 5, Yankees 3
Jose Bautista swatted his American League-leading ninth home run of the season as the Toronto Blue Jays fended off the host New York Yankees 5-3 on Friday night.
Bautista ripped an offering from Freddy Garcia (1-1) over the left-field wall for his sixth homer in the last 10 games. The defending home run champion finished 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and two walks to raise his average to an AL-best .372.
J.P. Arencibia added his fourth homer of the campaign to make a winner out of Ricky Romero (2-3), who finally received some run support to go with another solid outing.
The lefty surrendered two runs over six innings, walking three and striking out seven. The Blue Jays (13-13) had scored just four runs in Romero's last four starts.
Jon Rauch recorded the final four outs for his fifth save of the season.
Garcia was charged with three runs on seven hits over five innings, walking five and striking out six.
Second baseman Robinson Cano hit a pair of solo homers in defeat for the Yankees (14-9), giving him eight on the season.
